Newsletter 1 Term 4 -Thursday 15 October 2020

Kia Ora Koutou

Welcome back to the final term of 2020 – and what a year it has been!  I hope you had a lovely holiday with your tamariki.

On Tuesday the tamariki attended the Te Moana Glow Show at the Turners Centre.  This was possible as The Gumstore paid for their tickets and I would like to thank Pauline, Bruce and Carrie-Lynne for this kind gesture.

This coming Monday the tamariki will be going to Whangaroa College in the morning to take part in the Tui Matauranga Roadshow -this is an interactive programme supports teaching, informing and learning, highlighting local people, places and events that help shape our nation’s histories.  The staff will be taking the children down in their cars – Juniors first and then the Seniors.

Two big events this term – Lonsdale Camp Wednesday 28 October – Friday 30 October.  Next week I will be sending out the gear list and a list of foods for each whanau to provide.  Non-[erishables can be sent into school straight away.

The other event is, of course, our Production that we had to postpone last term.  The dates are Full Dress Reheasrsal Monday 16 November at 10.30am, Matinees Performance Wednesday 18 November at 11.00am.  This is for our grandparents, the elderly in our community and for other invited guests.  I will be asking for home baking closer to the date as we supply morning tea for them.  The Evening Performance is for whanau at 5.30pm on the Wednesday 18 November.  This will only be postponed if we enter Alert Level 2 again so fingers crossed that we all continue to be healthy and safe.

On that note about Covid – remember to use the App if you have it on your phone (we have QR Codes displayed) when coming into school, if you or your child is sick-stay at home and continue with good santitsing practices.

Finally, just a reminder that we are having a Teacher Only Day on Monday 23 November so tamariki will not be at school on that day.

LAST DAY TOMORROW FRIDAY 16 OCTOBER FOR KIDS ARTWORKS CALENDAR ETC ORDERS

Today the Senior and Junior students took part in a programme called ‘ Kids Voting’ organised by the Electoral Commision.  It is designed to encourage young students to share opinions and make choices that affect their lives and communities, and to develop understandings of how they can influence what happens in their class and school.

During the mock election the students had voting forms to fill in and some Senior class students had the roles of Returning officer, Registrar of Electors, Communications team, Issuing Officers and Counters.  Our Returning Officer (Axel) was pleased to announce that the election process ran smoothly.
