Newsletter 1 Term 1 -Friday 12 February 2021

Kia Ora Koutou

Welcome back to school for 2021 I hope that you had a great time  with your children over the holidays and were able to cope with the heat.  Two weeks down already and I apologize that I did not get a newsletter out in the first week but it has been all go here with trying to get the school back up and running. On that note I would like to thank Kylie, Izzy and Nick Marino for their help on Tuesday with carting books and furniture back to the right place.

Have you seen the newly lined classrooms?  They look great and in a couople of months we will have some new furniture  arriving.  The sport shed is huge and we are just waiting for the roller door to arrive and the ramp being made then we will be able to get the sports gear back in their new home. With a new roof, shade cloth, clearlite and pathway the School is looking good.  We also have other projects coming up and they are completing the repair of the toilets,  new fire alarm system that is code compliant and some susiding reports done.  In regard to the pool we are still waiting to hear from the Ministry of how they can help but I do envisage that we will need to do some fund raising also.

This term we will be looking at ‘Our Place, Our Identity”.  This will involve children looking at New Zealand and its place in the world and then bringing the focus down to the North Island, Northland and finally our area.  I am hoping to have some community meetings where people can come and talk and tell us their stories about the area so we are building up a history of our area.

This year we welcome Mark Carthew (Eko and Kowhai’s Dad) onto to the staff as our caretaker/groundsman.  He is taking over from Sheryl who is still on our staff as a cleaner so we will be still seeing her around.

In a couple of weeks we have Meet the Teacher Evening starting off with a sausage sizzle at 5.30pm and then at 6pm we will go into the classrooms and talk about programmes and events that are happening  this year.  Please keep this date free.

The Great Whangaroa Kiwi Can Raft Race is on Saturday 20 March and we need to revamp our raft.  I am looking for helpers to do this and support on the day.

Just a few reminders for you all.

All children must wear a wide brimmed hat this Term (no caps)

Please check your child’s book bag for notices and notes daily.

Look at dates of events that are coming up – newsletter, website calendar, facebook, Skool Loop

Pamphlets have been given out to the children for you to look at.  If you would like to purchase any of their amazing offers then please have all orders either sent back to school with the money or preferably done online using no later than the 18th of February 2021.  When ordering and paying through LOOP your orders will be received at school, checked off, and then sent home with your child.  If your order is for a gift for your child and you would like to pick it up from school yourself then please let Sharon know at the time of ordering. ( Banks are shortly not processing cheques, therefore please do not pay by sending a cheque)

The children this week have made their selection of what books they would like to receive at a special Role Model Assembly in April this year.  They are always excited to be part of this event and we would like to give a special thank you again to WESTPAC NEW ZEALAND LIMITED – KERIKERI who sponsor half of the cost of the books the children receive.
