Homework
All children have homework to complete each week
Our homework programme aims to:
Support the development of literacy and maths skills through practise
Assist children in establishing developmentally appropriate work habits and time management skills
Enable parents to support their child with work that reinforces their child’s learning at school
Junior Class
The junior class homework consists of a reading book each night, and weekly spelling /maths. Each child will bring home a homework notebook in their book bag each day. Parents need to sign to say that they have heard their child read their book and there are practise spaces for other homework. The homework notebook is also an important means of communication between home and school.
Reading at home should be an enjoyable activity. It is OK to read a book with or to the Junior children. If the book your child has is too hard, suggest to them that you read it to them and they can join in.
Senior Class
The senior class students also have reading to do each night. As well as this they have spelling and basic facts practice and a weekly homework sheet. Homework must be completed during the week and returned to school on Friday.
More information about how you can support your child’s learning is available at school or can be downloaded from The New Zealand Curriculum Online.
